The first instance of kitten heel shoes occurred in the nineteen fifties where they were invented as a more modest pair of stylish shoes for younger women. Back then, high heels were considered inappropriate wear for young girls due to the difficulty of use and especially for the sexual connotations linked with high heels. As the decades passed, more and more women from older age groups began to wear them. While the fortunes of the stiletto heel varied throughout the nineties, kitten heel shoes today are very much a part of modern women's fashion. Some popular figures that favor kitten heel shoes above other varieties include the first lady of America, Michelle Obama and Vogue Magazine's editor in chief, Anna Wintour.
